Reviews for St. Martin's Summer
Review - St. Martin's Summer
I felt like I was reading the screenplay for a 1930's swashbuckling movie. Simplistic and a bit silly.

| Notes: | Madame Condillac wants her son, Marius, to marry Valerie de La Vauvraye so they can own her valuable lands. She is already engaged to Marius’ half-brother, Florimond, who is off fighting wars. Valerie sends word to the queen that she is being held against her will, so the queen sends Garnache to rescue the girl. When is his first attempt is thwarted, Garnache disguises himself as an Italian soldier-for-hire and convinces Condillac to appoint him as Valerie’s guard. All the time they spend alone in the tower brings them close. Garnache finds out that Florimond is returning, and that Marius plans to meet and kill him. Garnache leaps out of the tower into the moat, and all assume he is drowned. But he goes to Florimond and warns him of his danger—and happens to find out Florimond is married. He gathers troops and returns to Condiallac, where he rescues Valerie. She tells him that it is him that she loves and not Florimond. Although he has always sworn not to get involved with women, he realizes he loves her too. |
