Notes:Carol marries Doctor Will Kennicott in the small town of Gopher Prairie. Carol wants to be a reformer, but doesn't know where to begin. She tries theater, a new courthouse, a flirtation, war work, a child and society, but is frustrated at every turn. She moves to Washington D.C. for two years, then returns, unchanged but willing to accept Will and the town for what they are.

Review - Main Street

Not so terribly bad. I could sympathize with much of Carol's frustration, but was frustrated in turn with her for being unable to find answers within herself. The smallness of the town and its people were drummed into me so repeatedly and endlessly that it became extremely dull. I waited and waited for the story to begin — the entire book seemed to be prelude. It wasn't until Carol left for Washington that anything could be said to have occurred, and even then it wasn't much.
