Poor Richard's Almanack

by Benjamin Franklin
List(s):"Carp 500"
Category: "Literature/Essays"
Pages:300
Year of Publication:1758
Date Read:09/07/1995
Notes:Printed at intervals from 1733 through 1758, this bright, lively, and sly almanac contained agricultural predictions, charts of the moon's phases, and, in Franklin's words, "entertaining remarks."
• He that takes a wife, takes care
• Fish & Visitors stink in 3 days.
• Eat to live, and not live to eat.
• Wink at small faults; remember thou hast great ones.
• No gains without pains.

COMMENTS — Each year’s Almanack contained an opening letter (or preface) by Franklin and a series of maxims. The Library of America edition, Benjamin Franklin: Writings, contains these portions. There are other editions available that contain more of the Almanack.
