Review - Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, The

Playboy artist Richard Nugent appears before Judge Margaret Turner for a night club brawl. She lets him off with a warning. He goes to the local high school to lecture on art and grabs the attention of the Judges’ 17-year-old sister, Susan. She corners him after the lecture and bugs him about being a model. To get rid of her, he sorta agrees. That night, while the Judge is out with assistant D.A. Tommy, Susan goes to Nugent’s apartment. He comes home and finds her there just as the Judge and the D.A. track her there. Nugent is arrested and spends the night in jail. The Judge’s uncle is the court psychiatrist. He thinks Nugent is a nice guy and convinces the Judge to let him go, but there’s a catch. Nugent is to “date” Susan until she gets over her crush. Nugent reluctantly agrees and takes Susan to a basketball game at her school. He spends the evening trying to get her to like Jerry, Susan’s old boyfriend.

The next Saturday, everyone goes to a picnic. Susan and the Judge convince Nugent and the D.A. to participate in a series of silly races. The D.A. wins them all until, on Susan’s request, Jerry trips the D.A. to allow Nugent to win. While all this is going on, the Judgs is amazed to discover that she’s falling for Nugent. That night, she calls him and asks him to meet her for dinner. The meal starts nicely, but then one of Nugent’s old girlfriends, then Susan, then Jerry and then the D.A. all show up. The evening ends in chaos. Susan tires of Nugent and gets back together with Jerry. Nugent decides to go on a trip. The Judge’s uncle finds out and talks the Judge into taking the same plane. The D.A. follows, but the uncle convinces some cops that he’s crazy and has him arrested. Nugent and the Judge meet and get on the plane arm-in-arm.

• You remind me of a man.
What man?
The man with the power.
What power?
Hoo-doo
Who do?
You do.
Do what?
Remind me of a man …

Silly plot, but great characters and some funny bits.
