Review - Bad Day at Black Rock
A good suspense film. Spencer Tracy plays his part well—a man who doesn't want to fight but will when he's cornered.

| Description: | John Macreedy (Spencer Tracy) travels to the desert town of Black Rock to give a medal to the father of the boy who died saving Macreedy's life in the war. He meets with suspicion and harassment by Reno Smith (Robert Ryan) and his thugs (Ernest Borgnine, Lee Marvin). The only person in town who seems at all sympathetic is Doc Velie (Walter Brennan). Macreedy figures out that Smith killed the father because he was Japanese and is strong-arming everyone in town to protect him. Macreedy tries to leave but Smith won't let him. He also tries to contact the police, but they won't let him do that either. Liz Wirth (Anne Francis) pretends to be taking Macreedy out of town, but delivers him to an ambush by Smith. Smith kills her because she can testify, but Macreedy gets the drop on Smith with a gasoline bomb. The police finally come, and Macreedy can leave town safely. |
