Badlands National Park — Part Two

These photos are from the eastern part of the park where the road drops down off the plateau and runs along the southern edge. We didn’t get out of the car as often on this stretch because a lot of what there was to see could be seen from the road.

This mound was screaming for a Red Chair shot.

The wind had finally died down. It was hot, but it was so dry that the heat wasn’t overwhelming. We drove out of the Badlands to Cactus Flat to tour Minutemen Missile National Historic Site, then drove back south and stopped at the Badlands visitor center. We then drove west to the Black Hills on a very remote back road.

We got to Sylvan Lake Lodge around 6:00 and decided to eat supper in the dining room — not realizing this was a fancy dining room with expensive entrees and reservations. We got stuck at a table that was twice as wide as a normal restaurant table. Our meal — I had steak, I think my wife got pork chops — cost us $60, but we decided to enjoy it anyway.
