I crossed the border about 10 times in the day and a half I was in town. But even though I drove up and down State Line Road, the only “Welcome to Kansas” sign I could find was on the interstate.
I decided to pull over and get a quick shot while trying not to be arrested or killed by rush-hour traffic. But there was a police car parked right in front of the sign. I had a sudden inspiration. I quickly grabbed the chair from the back seat, propped it on the dashboard (upside-down, as it turned out), yanked my camera out if its case and took this shot out the windshield as I sped by.
Too late, it occurred to me that, in my state sign pictures, I want the sign, the chair AND me. So I decided to go back the next morning and try again. I put the chair in place, right-side up this time, before I got on the interstate and had my camera all ready. I tilted the mirror so I could get my face in the shot. Everything was ready.
And right in front of the sign, there was a motorcycle cop. He was standing next to his bike pointing his speed gun at traffic like James Bond at the start of all the movies. I didn’t think it would be a good idea to point a camera at him as I went by, so I waited until the last minute and got this.
If I get back to Kansas, I think I’ll look for another sign.

Never a dull moment with you.
