On a beautiful spring day after a night of snow, I went forth in search of adventure. I started at Fountain Creek, then headed east into the plains before heading south to Cañon City where I walked Tunnel Drive Trail and a section of the river walk. I totaled 9 miles and more than 20,000 steps. Along the way I saw 55 species of birds, including all three teal in one pond and three species of owls. I don’t recall ever seeing three species of owls in one day before. I also saw a White-faced Ibis, Clark’s Grebe, Golden Eagle, Mountain Plover, and Rufous-crowned Sparrow. Along the way I spotted Pronghorn, White-tailed Deer, and Bighorn Sheep. It was great fun.
