Alger County, Michigan — Lake Superior State Forest — Adams Trail
I was driving from Munising to Grand Marais along Adams Trail, a dirt road through woods. I slowed down to look at a marsh and noticed a large number of butterflies around some flowering bushes between the road and the water. I got out for about five minutes and took these photos.
I knew I was looking at fritillaries of two species because, although they all looked similar, some were only half as large as others. I took a few photos, but didn’t stay long.
