Mold-a-rama

I’m not sure what it is about these things — I can’t seem to pass one by without the urge to purchase one of the cheap plastic figurines that never last very long.

I’m not the only one. On our recent trip to Brookfield Zoo, my daughter said she wanted one. We decided on one of the special Christmas editions — an angel, an snowman or a reindeer. I would have gone for the snowman, but my wife and daughter decided on the angel. The one in the display window was silver-gray. The one that came out was black, an odd choice for an angel, I though.

The appeal of the thing is that the clear bubble top allows you to “watch” your figurine. Of course, all you actually see is the two halves of the mold come together, then pull apart a minute later. A slide comes down and pushes the molded plastic into a tray. That’s it. But it’s fascinating.

We were disappointed to discover the angel didn’t have “Brookfield Zoo” on the base.

Why does the angel have a hole in his head?
