To get to Waukegan Harbor, I had to drive by the Union Pacific rail yard. After I wandered around the harbor for half an hour or so, I wandered over and took some photos of the trains.
I have no idea why, but for the entire time I was in the area, several of these engines were running. I wonder how much gas money that cost somebody … A Metra station was right next to the Union Pacific yard. I wondered as I wandered whether somebody would ask me what I was doing or tell me to get lost, but none of the very few people I saw even looked at me. I could have gotten a whole lot closer than I did.
