Bear Cave

On Saturday morning, all of us who were still at the park made a tour of the park sites we hadn’t visited yet. Our first stop was the Bear Cave. Story has it that a Black Bear was shot here in the early 1900’s. To get an idea of the place, dump a pile of maybe 50 Legos onto a table. Make several stacks two or three Legos high, tip some of them sideways and lean them against others and scatter a few off on their own. Now imagine that each Lego is the size of a house. That’s Bear Cave. There’s a trail that circles the formation and cuts through a few of the crevices, but it’s more fun just to wander wherever.

Most of us didn’t stay down on the ground for long.

Here’s the view from up there, looking back down.

Here’s a few shots of the view from up top.

In this shot, you can see Mather Lodge, built by the CCC in 1935. It has 24 rooms, a restaurant and a gift shop.

I took this pan on top of one of the stacks.
