American White Pelicans in the water

A flock of 14 or 15 American White Pelicans were hanging about Baker’s Lake in Barrington in late June, I wandered over late one morning and took some pictures. When I saw that three of them were swimming right along the shore, I crept down to the shore and slowly eased onto a bench. They had no idea I was there and were swimming right in front of me. I got a few photos and was about to get some really great close-ups when they emerged from behind a shoreline tree. And then suddenly they turned and swam swiftly out into the lake. I couldn’t figure out why. Then I noticed a woman with a huge lens on her camera. She had come barging down to the shore with no attempt at hiding and started snapping pictures. I’m sure she got some great ones of the back ends of pelicans.

Ugh, it drives me crazy when some person comes barging up and ruins a perfect potential picture. :-p
Those are nice shots, though. I particularly like the second one. The water looks really neat.
